Our Nutrition and Dietetic Community Department assesses and provides practical evidenced based dietary advice to help people understand the impact of diet on their health and well-being, helping people live longer, healthier lives.

• Food allergies and intolerances

  We can help to diagnose a suspected food allergy or intolerance and offer advice and support with managing your child’s diet. We can also offer support with re-introducing food allergens into your child’s diet if this is safe to do at home.

  We may use the Milk Ladder to help plan for the introduction of milk and dairy products into your child's diet. Read our information about the Milk Ladder.

• Diabetes

  We provide dietetic expertise to the children’s diabetes teams at Hinchingbrooke and Peterborough City Hospitals.

• Fussy or selective eating

  We can assess your child’s diet and growth to ensure they are getting what they need. We can offer advice on how to get more nutrients into your child’s diet if required and offer support around feeding behaviours and managing mealtimes.

• Tube feeding

  We provide support for children who need tube feeding in the community in the Huntingdonshire, Fenland and Peterborough areas. We monitor children and young people’s growth and requirements and provide personalised feeding plans to ensure they get everything they need.

  Support for children in the Ely, South Cambridgeshire and Cambridge City areas is provided by our colleagues at Addenbrookes Hospital (Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Trust).

• Who you will see and speak to

  Dietitians are qualified and registered health professionals that can assess, diagnose, and treat dietary and nutritional problems in infants, children and young people. Dietitians translate the most up-to-date scientific research on nutrition into practical support and guidance. They work in partnership with families to help ensure their child or young person gets what they need from their diet to grow and meet their potential.

  Dietitians work closely with other healthcare professional colleagues and nursery or school settings if needed to help treat a wide range of conditions including allergy, diabetes, feeding issues and gastrointestinal conditions.

  Administrators are very skilled NHS professionals that provide all the organisational support for the clinical teams. They are also the friendly voices at the other end of the phone when contacting the service. They will use their specialist knowledge of how the service works to help you or to signpost you to someone who can.

• Where we work

  We work across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough in a variety of clinic settings. We also work remotely using video and telephone appointments and virtual group sessions. We can liaise or visit with nursery or school settings if this support is needed as part of a treatment plan.
