Ready to learn workshop

Children In A Class Looking At A Book Held By A Teacher

Helping children to be ready to learn is a training package for all mainstream schools in Cambridgeshire. The training aims to give schools an understanding of what an optimum learning environment is and how to reduce disruption in the classroom and playground. It also provides an understanding of how to help children focus and be ready to learn.

Schools can book onto face to face training or watch our online training

Face to face

Schools can book a face to face training session at your school. Schools may wish to partner with another school. The workshop will primarily focus on sensory differences and regulation strategies for a whole school or whole class approach.

The interactive workshop is 90 minutes. It is open to all teachers, teaching assistants, SENCOs and support staff at the school. Each workshop will be limited to 25 attendees.

All participants will receive a workbook which is sent to the school. Before the workshop participants will also be sent some resources which will be useful to review before the session. After the workshop participants will receive a certificate of attendance.

If you have any specific dates reserved for staff training, you can contact us at ccs.sensoryworkshop@nhs.net, and we will try to accommodate your request.

Self-led training with online question and answer session

Schools can watch a live recording of a workshop and then book onto an online question and answer session.

The question and answer session, run by an occupational therapist, will be held over Microsoft Teams and last for about 1 hour.

When booking the online question and answer session, if you have any specific dates reserved for staff training, you can contact us at ccs.sensoryworkshop@nhs.net, and we will try to accommodate your request.

What others say about the training

I found the session really useful. It was great to hear the reasoning behind why it works and learn about the brain etc. It was useful to physically try some of the exercises because it made them easier to remember. I tried some of the hand and squat exercises with my class on Friday afternoon and it definitely helped.

Feedback from a school

I like being able to do my writing on the floor. I sit on my knees and put my book on the chair. It's much easier for me to be able to work then. I don't get so distracted by the others.

Feedback from a Year 2 boy

It has made me stop and think about my expectations when asking the children to sit on the carpet - it’s very easy to want everyone to conform when actually they just can’t. Lots to think about and try - very useful training.

I love it when I can lay on my tummy to do my phonics work. It helps me to do my work.

Feedback from a Year 1 boy

I loved the training! I use a range of techniques including breathing exercises, hand and shoulder relaxation and regular breaks. Sometimes I worry this could be considered as wasting time but this training stopped me feeling like this and gave me new ideas. I also liked the top half of the brain information.
