Welcome to our service

We provide physiotherapy services for Children and Young People in Cambridgeshire with Neurodevelopmental difficulties affecting how they move.

We work closely with colleagues in Children's Occupational Therapy, Children's Speech and Language Therapy and Community Paediatrics so that we can together provide the best all round support for children, young people and families.

Cambridgeshire Children’s Physiotherapy Service.

Helping your child reach their full potential.

Physiotherapy can help children and young people to move better, so they can be more independent and have a better quality of life.

We want to improve opportunities for children to develop and thrive such as playing with friends, accessing sports or enjoying hobbies.

After an assessment, the Physiotherapist will work with the children, young people and those who support them to set goals and develop an individual management plan.

To get the best results, physiotherapy needs to be part of every day life.

It’s what happens all day, every day that really counts!

At home, at school, at leisure.

We also assess for, advise on and provide suitable equipment like standing frames, walkers and sleep systems

The Physiotherapy department has two core teams, North and South.

The north team offer clinic appointments at the Oak Tree Centre in Huntingdon.

The south team offer clinic appointments at the Peacock Centre in Cambridge and Highfields Academy in Ely.

Both teams also see children and young people in other settings where it is indicated.

At home or in education settings such as school or nursery.

To access our Physiotherapy service you will need to be referred to us.

Find our referral form and further information online.

Professionals - referral forms and guidance

Referrals will be considered from health, social care and education professionals. We unfortunately cannot consider self-referrals.

Our service sees children and young people with neurodevelopmental difficulties. We also see babies with obstetric brachial plexus lesions and head turning preference/torticollis (where true tightness is present).

Please note: Children and young people with musculoskeletal conditions are seen by children’s physiotherapy teams working for Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust and should be referred directly to these teams through ‘Choose and Book’. Orthotic provision for this group of CYP is delivered by clinics at Addenbrooke’s and Hinchingbrooke Hospitals

Please complete the referral form as fully as possible. If important information is missing, this will cause delays as we will not be able to reach a decision about the referral. Send completed referral forms to ccs-tr.therapyreferrals@nhs.net
