Ready to learn

Ready to learn is a programme to help teachers and schools in the classroom and on the playground. Our team has developed information, training and resources for teachers and schools.
Ready to learn aims to:
- reduce disruption in the classroom and on the playground
- help schools create optimum learning environments
- help children focus and be ready to learn
- give ideas and strategies on how to support their class
Ready to learn is at a universal level. This means that the advice and strategies are helpful to all children. For children with complex difficulties, a targeted or specialised service is available.
We are actively developing the ready to learn programme. We are regularly adding new information and resources to these pages.
Ready to learn pack resources
The 'Ready to learn' pack is our main resource for schools. We have developed detailed information and worksheets for you to use in your classroom or school. Many of the strategies in the pack can be delivered as a whole school approach or a whole class approach.
The strategies are helpful for all children and young people, not just children and young people with additional needs. The activities and strategies should be carried out regularly for at least 1 school term. This will help you see their progress.
Many of the strategies like the finger or hand gyms and gym trails can be used at school and at home. The strategies and activities in the pack are appropriate for children and young people with motor skills difficulties.
School staff and parents can work together and use the ready to learn pack. It can help with developing an appropriate support plan as part of the Graduated Response to Supporting Children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) - Assess, Plan, Do, Review. More information is available in the Cambridgeshire local offer.
Please note, the ready to learn worksheets and record forms can be used to support a referral to occupational therapy. They provide evidence of strategies you have already tried.
